You must have seen the plane taking off and landing. You must have also traveled by plane. Many times such questions come to our mind to which there are no answers. Usually we take off from some plane and then land at another place. But some people on social media asked the question why the plane is not landed with full tank of fuel? Why is oil removed before unloading? Does this really happen? An aviation expert has answered these questions.
Aviation expert Rebecca Williams said that the main reason behind planes not landing with a full tank of fuel is its weight. Every plane has a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) and maximum landing weight (MLW). This is determined by the design of the plane. Takeoff weight is the maximum weight with which an airplane can safely take off from the ground. Whereas landing weight is the weight with which a plane can land safely on the ground.
high tension during landing
Generally the maximum landing weight is less than the maximum takeoff weight because there is more stress on the airplane during landing. If the weight is too much then the airplane may get damaged. Its wings may bend, its torso may break. Or the landing gear may be damaged. The weight of fuel in an airplane is very high. 1.30 lakh kg of fuel is filled in Boeing at one time. If it lands with this much weight, its weight will increase even more due to gravity. This can be very dangerous for the aircraft.
These things are kept an eye on
In such a situation, whenever the aircraft has to land, the plane controlling unit first calculates factors like fuel, payload, weather and reserves. Sometimes some fuel is burnt, so that the weight of the airplane is less than MLW. Many times this is not possible. In such a situation fuel dumping is done. Fuel is drained from the aircraft. Fuel dumping is a process that allows an airplane to release some of its fuel into the air. This is usually done by large airplanes. In small airplanes, fuel is kept very less anyway, so that such a situation does not arise.
